Arrive. Breathe. Stay.

A boutique hotel in Vermont's Green Mountains - where the mountains are out back, and southern Vermont is at your door.

Otherland was built on a simple belief: that a place can change the pace of you.

Previously called Lodge at West River - originally opened in 1969, reimagined entirely in 2026 - Otherland is located in Southern Vermont, in the footsteps of the Green Mountains.

Step through the building and the rooms open up onto a wide meadow, with the mountains rising behind it and the West River moving quietly at the edge of forty acres of Vermont land that belongs entirely to you.

A Few Things Worth Coming For

PRIVATE SAUNAS

Step into warmth that restores more than your body. Our unique Mirror Sauna & A-Frame Sauna are quiet rituals - moments where heat, breath, and stillness come together. Exclusively for our guests.

COMMON LOUNGES

The two common lounges are the warm center of the building - large fireplace, comfortable seating arranged for conversation, shelves of books, and a collection of games for the evenings when no one wants to call it a night.

THE VIEW

Every guest room at Otherland has a large window looking out onto the mountains. Built into it is reading nook - made for the mornings when the only thing on the agenda is the light changing over the mountains.

PRIVATE RIVER ACCESS

The West River runs along the eastern edge of the property, and the nooks and quiet beach areas along its bank are kept just for you. A short walk across the back lawn, past the meadow, and you're there - cold water, the sound of current, a stretch of Vermont riverbank that feels like a secret.

PERFECT BASECAMP FOR SOUTHERN VERMONT

Southern Vermont rewards the unhurried traveler. Trails that open into unexpected views. Ski mountains with real character. Rivers worth lingering beside. Small towns that feel like they've been waiting quietly for you to find them. Otherland is where you return at the end of each day - warm, considered, restored. Here's what's worth going out for.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What makes Otherland different from a typical hotel?

Otherland is a new nature-focused, design-forward boutique hotel. In practical terms, it means that we've placed great emphasis on creating a beautiful space for our guests to stay in, as well as to enjoy the nature all around it. Whether it's the large picture windows in every room with a reading nook, beautiful private saunas for our guests to use, or secluded hidden spots by the river - we wanted it to be not just a stay, but an experience for our guests. From the moment you arrive, everything is curated to help you disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with yourself.

2. How does contactless check-in work? Is there a front desk and reception?

As we're a very small property with just 20 guest units, we offer a contactless check in experience. This means that while we do have maintenance and housekeeping staff on-site, you'll actually receive all of the check-in instructions and digital code for your room after you book and before you arrive. This way, you'll be able to access your room and all of the common areas at your own pace. Of course, shall any questions arise, you can reach our team by call or text 7 days a week from 9am to 10pm.

3. Are the saunas included in the stay?

Yes, all of our guests have access to both saunas. The way it works is that you are able to book a private time slot (or several) during your stay, so you can enjoy the saunas privately.

4. How do the common spaces work?

We've put a great deal of thought and intention into designing beautiful common spaces that you can enjoy. This includes two lounges, including one with a gorgeous fireplace, filled with comfortable seating areas, books and games. A kitchenette that all of our guests can utilize. Outdoor firepit area and the activity lawn with games. We simply ask that guests are respectful of each other and clean up after using the spaces, so other guests can enjoy them as well.

5. Do the rooms have Wi-Fi and TVs?

Yes, our property has high-speed Wi-Fi and all of our hotel guest rooms are equipped with a large 70" television with streaming services available.

6. Are pets allowed?

Yes, we allow guests to bring dogs during their reservation. There's a maximum of 2-dogs per room allowed and a small fee applies during check out process.
